Overland Park, KS (June 18, 2014) — More than 1,000 business school leaders from around the world will converge in Chicago next week to discover new and innovative ways to teach and evaluate student success in the digital age. The Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) will host its 26th Annual Conference at the Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile June 27-30.
ACBSP accredits business programs at all degree levels at more than 930 campuses in the U.S. and 58 other countries. The theme of this year’s conference is, “Engaged Learning in the Digital Age.” These business school leaders will learn how other schools are using technology, social media, and other digital tools to reach a student population that is spending more and more time online.
“We should be using technology to reach our students where they are most comfortable to promote better learning,” said ACBSP President Charles Beem. “And you don’t have to look farther than any business school classroom to see that technology has become an integral part of our students’ lives.”
A survey of business school leaders conducted by ACBSP this spring found that students are more likely to bring a cell phone to class (95% of them) than they are a pen or pencil and paper (82%). Respondents predicted that the use of tablets in class will jump from 18% to 54% in five years. And the use of wearable tech (Google Glass, etc.) will jump from 1% to 18%.
Topics covered at this year’s ACBSP conference will include:
--Digital Badges: a new way to certify what your students have learned
--Using Twitter as a teaching tool
--Best practices for teaching online classes
--Using YouTube and online video to provide lectures outside of class, allowing more hands-on activities in class.
Friday’s luncheon speaker will be Neil Marquardt, Vice President of 4LTR Press and the Student Experience, Cengage Learning. Neil will discuss the latest research on the student use of digital solutions.
