OVERLAND PARK, KS, USA (July 29, 2013) The Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP),, proudly announces that Dewayne Thompson, Ph.D., Professor and Chair of the Department of Business at Lee University in Cleveland, Tenn., has been awarded the 2013 International Best of Regions Excellence Award for his presentation, A Business Ethics Framework: The Foundation of CSR.

Thompson presented the session during the ACBSP Annual Conference in Salt Lake City, Utah this June, along with six other business faculty, who like Thompson, had previously been selected as a "Best of Regions” presenter at their ACBSP regional meeting held last fall. All presenters selected as "Best of Regions” during the fall meetings were guaranteed a concurrent session presentation at the 2013 Annual Conference.

"I teach at a Christian college, suggesting that ethical decision-making finds a welcome environment; additionally, faculty are encouraged to integrate their faith within the discipline,” Thompson said. "Based on my experience as an ACBSP Evaluator [observing schools going through the accreditation process], I understand that many schools do not have a standalone business ethics course but encourage discussion in ethics across the business curriculum. I hold the opinion that ‘if it’s everyone’s responsibility, it is no one’s responsibility.’ I presuppose that standalone courses lend themselves to assessing the process of ethical decision making better than the solely-across-the-curriculum approach,” he said.

The Council of Regional Presidents for ACBSP established the International Best of Regions Excellence Award program in 2012 as a way to honor exceptional presentations given by ACBSP members that address the ACBSP Annual Conference theme. This year’s theme was: Sustainability and Corporate Responsibility in the Classroom. The theme for the 2014 ACBSP Annual Conference in Chicago is Engaged Learning in the Digital Age.

"Business faculty at ACBSP-accredited colleges and universities are among the best in their field,” said Douglas Viehland, ACBSP Executive Director. "ACBSP has a mission to develop, promote and recognize best practices that contribute to continuous improvement of business education. Recognizing faculty members who strive for this every day online and in the classroom is one way we achieve this goal,” he stated.

ACBSP’s mission is to promote continuous improvement and recognize excellence in the accreditation of business education programs around the world. ACBSP is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) as a specialized accreditation agency for business education. ACBSP currently has 1,171 member campuses, 183 of which are located outside of the U.S. Of those campuses, 603 have achieved accreditation and more than 200 are in candidacy for accreditation. Individual members on these campuses now exceed 9,900.
