ACBSP Comes to Salt Lake City with Conferences on Sustainability and Business Accreditation

ACBSP Comes to Salt Lake City Next Week with Conferences Focused on Sustainability and Specialized Business Accreditation


ACBSP will host two conferences next week:

• Accreditation Conference — June 21-22 — at the Hilton Salt Lake City Center.

• 2013 ACBSP Annual Conference, with a focus on Sustainability and Corporate Responsibility in the Classroom, — June 21-24 — at the Marriott Salt Lake City Downtown.


OVERLAND PARK, KS, USA (June 14, 2013) The Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP), will host two conferences next week in Salt Lake City. More than 725 individuals are registered to attend, including business faculty, deans, chairs, provosts and chancellors from 339 colleges and universities in 19 countries. Government officials will also be in attendance.


Here are some highlights:

Academic Accountability: Solutions to Your Higher Education Challenges

Time and place: Friday, June 21 — 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. — Salon 3 — Hilton

ACBSP along with regional accreditors, CHEA, state regulators, and the U.S. Department of Education require accountability in higher education. Olin Oedekoven, President & CEO of Peregrine Academic Services, will outline tools and services that help business faculty address assessment, accountability, and benchmarking requirements.


Denise Naugib, VP of Sustainability & Supplier Diversity, Global Operations Services at   

   Marriott International

Time and place: Friday, June 21 — 12:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. — Salons A-F — Marriott

In her keynote, Naugib will describe the role of a chief sustainability officer within a major global corporation.


Faculty Perceptions of the Importance of CSR and Sustainability in Business

Time and place: Friday, June 21 — 3:15 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. — Salons G-H — Marriott

Alissa Oelfke, Viterbo University, will describe a study that examines the ecological world view as well as the attitude toward social responsibility of business faculty who are currently teaching in undergraduate management programs of study at both public and private colleges and universities in the U.S.


A Business Ethics Framework: The Foundation of CSR

Time and place: Saturday, June 22 — 8:00 a.m. – 8:45 a.m. — Deer Valley — Marriott

Dewayne Thompson, Lee University, says: "While the professor may not be able to measure student ethicality, the professor can teach a framework to determine whether the student considers an ethical decision making process to apply ethical theory. Theory within itself is insufficient; therefore, the framework considers the interaction of world views, economic structures, and legal issues.”


Jonas Haertle, Head of the Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) Secretariat in the United Nations Global Compact Office

Time and place: Saturday, June 22 — 12:30 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. — Salons A-F — Marriott

The mission of the PRME initiative is to inspire and champion responsible management education, research and thought leadership globally. Haertle will outline the work of PRME and describe the Six Principles.


Lenoir-Rhyne University MBA Student Presentation

Time and place: Sunday, June 23 — 8:00 a.m. – 8:45 a.m. — Deer Valley — Marriott

Oliver Worth & Adam Coffey, MBA students at the Charles M. Snipes School of Business at Lenoir-Rhyne will describe the work of their team in assessing the oil commodity industry and the Corporate Sustainability of Intertek.



ACBSP is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) as a specialized accreditation agency for business education. ACBSP currently has 1,171 member campuses, 183 of which are located outside of the U.S. Of those campuses, 603 have achieved accreditation and more than 200 are in candidacy for accreditation. Individual members on these campuses now exceed 9,900.
