  Basis for the accreditation decision. a. The student advisement process is well-defined and deployed to students, faculty and staff. The university process for initial business students in the College of Excellence starts the student’s academic experience by directing the student to enroll in courses to satisfy the general education requirements. At the beginning of the second year, the student is assigned a faculty member for advisement who follows them through their degree plan. The business unit uses an internally developed program known as myBschool which helps the faculty advisor and the student monitor progress. Each semester the student must consult with the faculty advisor who approves the student’s enrollment plan for the next semester and then forwards it to the dean’s office. The dean’s office approves it and the student completes a feedback survey on the process before a PIN is issued, allowing the student to access the Banner system and finalize enrollment.b. The business unit has created and is executing a fully deployed assessment process of improvement of student learning objectives using the ETS Major Field Test, as well as a faculty assessment of oral presentations and written projects. This process has produced improvements in many of the existing programs and ensures that students are achieving success. It is a mature process. c. The faculty has excellent academic qualifications and it’s record in producing intellectual contributions in various forms is exemplary. This ensures a strong cadre of current and relevant professors in all forms of course content delivery.d. The student body of the business unit is extremely responsive to the faculty and is “learning ready” in the various programs offered by the business unit, including Delta Mu Delta and Enactus. This has encouraged complete student engagement in the business unit and may result in business student enthusiasm spreading to the other students and programs on campus. e. The business unit, with the support of information technology, has employed available Blackboard resources which include Blackboard’s product known as Elluminate Live to offer online classes in simultaneous delivery formats. Faculty teach many hybrid classes whereby the professor teaches in a classroom and those who wish to receive the class face-to-face may do so, and those who wish to access the course synchronously online may do so using Blackboard Elluminate. If a student is unable to attend a class, the student may access at their leisure a recorded copy of the lecture that is stored by Blackboard Elluminate. The student body loves the flexibility of the offering which allows them to receive course information at their convenience. The business unit also teaches fully online asynchronous courses using the same platform. f. A new facility in Natchez, presently used in support of the business unit’s MBA program, is an excellent facility with faculty and administrative offices, classrooms, a large auditorium, and a library. The facility is state-of-the-art and will support expansion of the existing MBA program, as well as other programs. a. While the business unit has developed summative assessment measures, it has just recently begun to develop formative assessment at the course level. While in its initial stages of development, performing formative assessment at various times within the typical student’s plan of study may allow improved learning that may enhance program learning outcomes and student overall performance.b. The business unit recently constituted an advisory board that met for the first time a week before the ACBSP team visit. While in its initial stages, the board consists of very enthusiastic supporters who may contribute to all of the programs conducted by the business unit through student mentorship, curriculum advisement, internships, community relations, fundraising, etc. c. While the business unit has initiated the stakeholder listening process through the use of surveys, many of the surveys, including the community survey, have experienced extremely low response rates. The listening processes are in their early stages of employment, but without higher response rates, it may be very difficult to analyze stakeholder inputs leading to curriculum and overall program improvements. d. The business unit does not have a Human Resources (HR) plan. The unit bases its HR planning upon a rolling schedule of classes and available faculty. An HR plan, with links to the strategic plan, that addresses personnel, budgetary, facility, and timing concerns may improve the future employment of resources and program/course offerings. This could lead to improved faculty and student satisfaction.e. While the business unit has developed some student retention initiatives in cooperation with institutional agencies, there is no written plan that describes retention processes that would allow for implementation of a continuous improvement process. Recent retention and graduation data show a decline in students returning for their fifth year as well as a drop in graduation rate. A well-defined and documented process may enhance retention and graduation rates. f. While the quality of the faculty is high, numerous faculty stated that they have taught in an overload condition within the past year. Additionally, analysis of course schedules showed that business unit leadership is carrying course loads that are equivalent to a full teaching load. Without sufficient reductions in teaching loads for faculty to perform necessary administrative functions, or an increase in administrative personnel, the overall quality of both teaching and administration may suffer.
