2018 Region 6 Conference Update

Posted By Kim Wong, Tuesday, September 11, 2018
Updated: Tuesday, September 11, 2018
I hope the beginning of your fall terms is going well, a quick update on the Region 6 Conference as well some critical dates of importance.

Advance registration for the conference and the hotel has been steady to this point in time. Based upon the current numbers, it is reasonable to anticipate a conference size of approximately 50-60 attendees which is consistent with Region 6 conferences previously held in Las Cruces and Santa Fe, New Mexico. The following is key information (including dates and important deadlines):

IMPORTANT -  HOTEL ROOM REGISTRATION/BLOCK AND BALLOON SHUTTLE RESERVATIONS

The $139 room rate for block of rooms reserved under ACBSP/Southwest Council of Business Schools at the Sheraton Albuquerque Airport Hotel was graciously extended an extra week until this Monday, September 17th at midnight (the rate was previously scheduled to end this upcoming Monday, September 10th). The $139 room rate has been secured for the full conference for the nights of Wednesday, October 10th and Thursday, October 11th, 2018 and on a limited basis for Tuesday, October 9th and Friday, October 12th. Following next Monday, the Sheraton room rate will go up to over $200 a night, which reflects the current price for similar hotels during the Balloon Fiesta. Rooms can be reserved directly with the Sheraton Albuquerque Airport Hotel at 505-843-7000.

PLEASE make your hotel room reservations now if at all possible, you can cancel your guaranteed reservations 72 hours in advance with no penalty. The sales manager at the Sheraton explained that many of the Balloon Fiesta nights are already sold out with a number of tour groups waiting to absorb any excess hotel rooms that become available with a willingness to pay over $300 a night.

The Sheraton has also offered Region 6 conference attendees a shuttle van exclusively for 11 people who will commit to attending the Balloon Fiesta on Thursday morning. The Sheraton shuttle van will drop people off at the city shuttle which brings everyone directly to the Balloon Fiesta site. This combination of shuttles is without question the most efficient and hassle-free way to get to the Balloon Fiesta site. Please email me by Friday, September 14th at kwong@cnm.edu to reserve space on the Sheraton shuttle. I will be forwarding more information on how to make reservations on the city shuttle and purchase tickets for the Balloon Fiesta. There will also be spaces on the other Sheraton shuttles if we have more than 11 attendees who are interested on Thursday morning, nonetheless, the Sheraton front office person who is coordinating the shuttles strongly emphasized that the exclusive and dedicated shuttle is the best way by far for a group to attend Balloon Fiesta.

CONFERENCE REGISTRATION

The early conference registration fee of $110.00 is available through September 18, 2018 with a $130.00 registration fee after that date. Registration fees include attendance at all business meetings and presentations and all meals and snacks. Begin your registration here.

CALL FOR PRESENTATIONS

Submissions for presentations must be received by September 19, 2018 using the Response Form included in the Call for Presentations previously emailed to all conference invitees. Further instructions for submission are included on the Response Form.

CONFERENCE SCHEDULE

Attached is a copy of the conference schedule. The information also available at the ACBSP Region 6 website.

The following link is for the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta: balloonfiesta.com.

I hope you find this information helpful, please do not hesitate to email me at kwong@cnm.edu if there is anything else I can help with.

Take care,
