Awards and Honor Societies
DELTA MU DELTA
Delta Mu Delta is an international honor society established in 1913 to recognize students in accredited business schools for their high academic achievement in baccalaureate, masters and doctorate programs. Over the last 96 years, Delta Mu Delta has grown to its current membership of more than 240 active chapters, approximately 180 of which are ACBSP members, with more than 150,000 individual members. Through an agreement made in January 1992 between Delta Mu Delta and ACBSP, future establishment of Delta Mu Delta chapters is exclusively with colleges and universities with business programs which are accredited by ACBSP at the baccalaureate/graduate level.
Students are invited to lifetime membership based on the following eligibility guidelines: must be in the top 20% of their respective class and be in good standing with their institution; undergraduates must have completed one-half of their course work and have a cumulative average grade of at least .25 above a "B"; and graduate students must have completed at least one-half the requirements for their graduate or doctoral degree with a cumulative average grade of at least .60 above a "B". Chapters may establish more stringent requirements. Those students who accept membership are publicly recognized by their chapters and are presented a certificate of membership and the key of Delta Mu Delta at a formal initiation ceremony.
In addition to providing public recognition to business students who have distinguished themselves in their schools of business, Delta Mu Delta also annually awards scholarships and recognitions to students based on academic record and performance, demonstrated leadership and service, and character and ethical behavior.
The Greek letters, DMD, in the Society's symbol stand for Dia Matheseos Dynamis , signifying the motto of the Society, "Through Knowledge, Power." To be awarded the Delta Mu Delta Key should be the ambition of every person who pursues a degree in business where Delta Mu Delta membership is possible.
A Delta Mu Delta chapter is one of the rewards of ACBSP accreditation and provides a means by which an institution may give lifetime national recognition to its outstanding graduates.
