Teaching Excellence Award

OBJECTIVE: The Associate Degree Commission of the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) recognizes the significance of the classroom teacher to the mission of associate degree granting institutions. It is for this reason that the Associate Degree Commission originally established the International Teaching Excellence Award in 1995 to recognize individuals who exemplify excellence in teaching. In 2002, the Baccalaureate Degree Commission created a similar award to recognize excellence in teaching in all baccalaureate degree schools.

The Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs is the only specialized accrediting body for business schools that presents an award recognizing excellence in teaching.

REGIONAL RECIPIENT AWARD: Each applicant is first a candidate in a regional competition. There are currently nine regions. A map of all regions and description of regional councils can be found at http://www.acbsp.org/index.php?mo=cm&op=ld&fid=109. Once submitted to the ACBSP office, the applications received will be sent directly to the regional president. A committee review follows and a regional recipient selected from all associate degree applicants and a regional recipient from all baccalaureate degree applicants. Regional winners are expected to attend the Annual Conference as nominees for the Teaching Excellence Award and will be presented the medallion and a check in the amount of $100.  Annual Conference registration fees are waived for regional winners. Each becomes a candidate to receive the international award.

INTERNATIONAL RECIPIENT AWARD: The International Teaching Excellence Award is selected from the eight regional recipients. An award is presented to an individual from an associate degree institution and an award is presented to an individual from a baccalaureate/graduate degree institution. Each recipient will receive international recognition, a plaque, her/his name inscribed on a permanent honor roll maintained at the ACBSP Office, and a check in the amount of $500.

APPLICATION PROCESS:  All applications must be submitted to a special e-mail address prepared exclusively to receive the applications and all inquiries. All applications will be acknowledged as received. The application deadline for the 2009-2010 academic year is February 26, 2010.  More information on the criteria upon which applications will be judged, documents to be submitted and the format required is available by downloading the Teaching Excellence Award Guidelines and Application.
