OVERLAND PARK, KS, USA (April 27, 2015) Diane Riegal, Associate Professor, SUNY Sullivan in Loch Sheldrake, N.Y., has been named a regional recipient of the 2015 ACBSP Teaching Excellence Award. The Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs recognizes individuals each year who exemplify teaching excellence in the classroo

Riegal will be honored, along with other regional recipients, at ACBSP Conference 2015, June 12-15 in Philadelphia, Pa. She will receive a medallion and a $100 check. Two International Teaching Excellence Award recipients will be announced at a special Salute to Regions luncheon, one from a baccalaureate/graduate degree-granting institution and one from an associate degree-granting institution. As a regional recipient, Riegal is now a candidate for the international award.

"Professor Diane Riegal is the most outstanding teacher I have ever encountered in my 36 years at SUNY Sullivan," said Mary R. Sudol, Chairperson and Professor, Division of Business and Culinary Arts, SUNY Sullivan. "Diane's effectiveness with students has been clearly demonstrated by her excellent student evaluations, which are consistently higher than both the division and college mean in the areas of overall teaching effectiveness and overall quality of the course. Professor Riegal was also the 2009 recipient of the State University of New York Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching, which is an extremely prestigious honor," she said.

The ACBSP Associate Degree Commission established the International Teaching Excellence Award in 1995 to recognize outstanding classroom teachers. In 2002, the Baccalaureate Degree Commission created a similar award to recognize excellence in teaching at the baccalaureate/graduate degree level. ACBSP is the only specialized body for business schools that presents an award recognizing excellence in teaching, open to application by the entire membership.

"It is more important than ever for business programs to produce graduates who are ready to enter the global marketplace," said Jeffrey Alderman, ACBSP Chief Executive Officer. "ACBSP has a mission to develop, promote and recognize best practices that contribute to continuous improvement of business education. Recognition of teaching excellence is one way we achieve this goal," he stated.
