ACBSP Executive Director/CEO Douglas Viehland Retires February 28

OVERLAND PARK, KS, USA (February 2, 2015) Douglas G. Viehland, CAE, has been Executive Director/CEO of the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) www.acbsp.org since 2003. Viehland announced his decision to retire last June, at the conclusion of the ACBSP Annual Conference in Chicago.
Viehland led the association through a period of tremendous change and significant growth. In September 2001, ACBSP had 416 member campuses, 269 of which were accredited. ACBSP currently has 1,315 member campuses, 997 of which are accredited with 226 more in candidacy for accreditation. The association has undergone a name change, a capital campaign, purchased headquarters office space in Overland Park, Kansas, and expanded its global reach, adding offices in Brussels, Belgium and Lima, Peru.
“When I think of Doug, I am reminded of the quote by Alex Noble that says, ‘Success is a process, a quality of mind and a way of being, an outgoing affirmation of life,’” said Dr. Anthony Negbenebor, Dean of the Godbold School of Business at Gardner-Webb University and ACBSP President 2014-15. “Doug’s work ethic is unsurpassed. His contribution to the success of ACBSP globally will not be forgotten. We wish him success as he retires from ACBSP and continues with other interests,” he said.
With 12 years of service, Viehland is the longest standing executive director in ACBSP’s 25-year history.
About Mr. Viehland
Prior to joining ACBSP in 2003, Douglas G. Viehland served as President of the American Hotel & Lodging Foundation. Prior to that, he served as Executive Vice President of the Hotel & Motel Association of Greater Kansas City. He is the past president of the Kansas City Society of Association Executives. He has a Masters Degree in Higher Education Administration and has conducted government relations on behalf of higher education issues. In addition, he has a career of working with colleges and universities. In each executive position in his career, Viehland created programs designed to increase membership and participation by colleges in the trade association and the association-related foundation. He is a Certified Association Executive (CAE), a designation issued by the American Society of Association Executives.
