OVERLAND PARK, KS, USA (September 17, 2013) Following the creation of a European office in 2011, the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) www.acbsp.org, has now turned its attention to a growing Latin American membership by opening an office in Lima, Peru.

Establishing the Latin American office, located on the campus of Universidad de San Martín de Porres, Jr. Las Calandrias 151 -291 Santa Anita – Lima 43 – Perú, will address an ongoing commitment to member campuses outside the United States and significantly increase the global presence of ACBSP.

ACBSP has seen tremendous growth in its membership in recent years, much of which has been among campuses outside the United States. This growth prompted ACBSP to open the Brussels office in 2011 and now a third office in Lima. "In the early years, ACBSP membership was comprised almost exclusively of U.S.-based colleges and universities. Now, 25 years later, our membership base from outside the U.S. consists of 186 member campuses in 53 countries,” said Doug Viehland, executive director.

Specialized business accreditation is gaining prominence in Latin American countries as more and more universities pursue accreditation through ACBSP. "It is appropriate that Universidad de San Martín de Porres house our Latin American office, as they were the first Latin American university to join ACBSP in 2005 and among the first to earn accreditation,” said Steve Parscale, director of accreditation. Twenty universities in Latin, Central and South America are members of ACBSP, including 10 that have achieved accreditation and eight that are in candidacy for accreditation. Universidad Autonoma de Aguacalientes was granted accreditation by ACBSP in November 2012, making them the first university in Mexico to achieve such an honor.

The Council has appointed Wilfredo Giraldo to serve as the Director of Latin American Operations. Giraldo was part of the faculty team that successfully guided Universidad de San Martín de Porres through the accreditation process in 2008. Giraldo is also a trained site team evaluator for accreditation site team visits and a mentor for schools in Latin America, and will continue in these roles on behalf of ACBSP. His work as the Director of Latin American Operations ensures someone with a strong knowledge of and experience in the accreditation process represents ACBSP to all of Latin America. "Not only is a never-ending commitment a must to improve education worldwide, but also core values are fundamentals. ACBSP has chosen key core values that represent the foundation of every quality improvement effort in business education,” said Giraldo. "Having a long-range view and fast response in looking for better performance systems will provide an extraordinary contribution toward developing a quality culture in Latin American business and business higher education," he said.
