ACBSP Executive Director Part of Leadership Panel Presentation at the 2013 Global Management Challenge USA National Finals


ACBSP will be recognized for its strategic alliance with Global Management Challenge USA during the Awards Ceremony of the 2013 National Finals, hosted at the headquarters of NYSE Euronext in New York City on March 25. Douglas Viehland, ACBSP Executive Director, is also part of a Leadership Panel presentation the following day.


OVERLAND PARK, KS, USA (March 21, 2013) The Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) will be among the groups represented at the Global Management Challenge USA National Finals, March 25-26 in New York City. ACBSP will be recognized for its strategic alliance with Global Management Challenge USA during the Awards Ceremony on March 25. Doug Viehland, ACBSP Executive Director, will be on hand to accept the recognition award.


On March 26, Viehland will join Jonas Haertle, head of the Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) Secretariat in the United Nations Global Compact Office; Edward Martin, Director Mobile Marketing, The Hershey Company; and Margaret Coady, Executive Director of Committee Encouraging Corporate Philanthropy (CECP), for a Leadership Panel presentation.


The Global Management Challenge is the largest strategy and management simulation competition in the world. Fortune Magazine ran a two-page article featuring the Challenge in the USA. There are four stages of the Global Management Challenge. Round 1 (Jan. 18-Feb. 7) and Round 2 (Feb. 11-March 4) were both online. The eight winning teams from Round 2 will travel to New York City for the National Final. Then the national finalist will go on to represent the USA at the International Final in Bucharest, Romania, April 16-18.


ACBSP had one team competing this year — George Fox University, an ACBSP-accredited institution located in Newberg, Oregon. The team was comprised of students and faculty from the School of Business at George Fox University. Team ACBSP completed the first round of competition. Annette Nemetz, Assistant Professor of Management and Global Business, George Fox University, who led Team ACBSP in the Challenge said: "The George Fox School of Business (GFSB) team was very excited and grateful to be participating in the Global Management Challenge as an inaugural team sponsored by ACBSP. GMC was a stimulating learning experience and we look forward to putting together a team again next year. Management simulations are an excellent way to integrate concepts with practice and they give students the opportunity to explore the impacts of corporate decision-making."


TEAM ACBSP was among 100 teams competing in the 2013 Global Management Challenge USA. Contestants in the Challenge included students, faculty, and business people. Each team was comprised of between three and five individuals from among those groups.


"Global Management Challenge brings together students, business schools, and corporations in a unique learning experience,” said Viehland. "When they graduate, they will have to compete and cooperate at the same time to be successful. This is what is required to be successful in this competition. That is why we are pleased to endorse this learning experience and plan to participate again next year.”
