ACBSP Endorses Declaration in Support of Independent Quality Assessment System in Russia

ACBSP Executive Director Douglas Viehland, along with others representing accreditation bodies from around the world, endorses a Declaration in Support of Independent Quality Assessment System in Russia, during theXVI International RABE Conference.

RABE Declaration SignersOVERLAND PARK, KS, USA (November 15, 2012)During the XVI International RABE Conference organized by the Russian Association of Business Education (RABE) and the Italian Association for Management Education Development (ASFOR), held Oct. 29-30 in Sicily, Italy, RABE introduced a "Declaration of the World Management Development Organisations in Support of Independent Quality Assessment System in Russia” for endorsement by the accreditation bodies in attendance and other global accrediting bodies. Douglas Viehland, Executive Director of the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) www.acbsp.org, was among those who signed the Declaration.

"A National Independent Consortium for Quality Assessment of Business Education in Russia has been created to develop a ‘market driven, custom-oriented and sustainable national independent system for Quality Assessment of Business Education,’” said Viehland. "The purpose of the Declaration is for those signing the agreement to pledge their support for the Consortium by providing expertise as requested and urging transparency in the development and implementation of the Consortium processes.”

Representatives from the accrediting bodies present at the Conference committed to sign the Declaration or take it back to their offices for leadership consideration.Viehland signed the Declaration on behalf of the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs, subject to review by the ACBSP leadership later this month.

Each year, the RABE Conference focuses on global issues and the Russian market of business education.The 2012 Conference theme was, "Business Education and Business School 2020: New Trends, Models, and Opportunities.”Viehland was part of a panel presentation titled "Business School Associations: Opportunities of Co-operation and Challenges of Competition.How to Develop Synergetic Model and Mutually Beneficial Activities for the Future.”Other panelists included representatives from associations of business schools offering global, regional, or national accreditation — The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International), Central Eastern European Association for Management Development (CEEMAN), European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD), and the Italian Association for Management Education (ASFOR). The Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC), an association of schools and the administrator of the GMAT exam, was also represented on the panel.
