Associate Degree Schools Find Value in ACBSP Accreditation

As Community Colleges Strive to Offer the Highest Quality Programs for Their Students, Many Are Pursuing Accreditation to Differentiate Themselves From the Rest.

OVERLAND PARK, KS, USA (October 30, 2012)The Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) welcomed three associate degree schools into membership in one week, signifying a growing trend among associate degree schools to ensure continuous quality improvement of their programs. ACBSP is the only organization offering accreditation to all levels of collegiate business programs from associate to doctoral degree programs.

Columbus Technical College (Georgia), Hillsborough Community College (Florida), and Kapiolani Community College (Hawaii) now join the more than 185 associate degree campuses in ACBSP membership, 158 of which are accredited and 15 of which are candidates for accreditation.

"Before ACBSP came along, associate degree institutions had no way to have valid recognition of the quality of our business programs,” said Betsy Davis, Chair of the Associate Degree Board of Commissioners for ACBSP, in a video interview. "Because of this organization, we now have that ability to validate faculty credentials and excellence in teaching as recognized by this association.”

Business faculty at associate degree schools in membership with ACBSP understand the importance of offering the highest quality business education to their students. "The faculty and staff of Hillsborough Community College believe that joining ACBSP will assist our institution and business programs in havinggreater stature and visibility in the national community. The credibility of the ACBSP membership will also bring more students to our business programs,” said Elizabeth R. Johnson, M.S., Dean, Associate in Science Degree Programs, Dale Mabry Campus.

ACBSP’s mission is to promote continuous improvement and recognize excellence in the accreditation of business education programs around the world. ACBSP is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) as a specialized accreditation agency for business education. ACBSP currently has 1,134 member campuses, 167 of which are located outside of the U.S. Of those campuses, 572 have achieved accreditation and more than 485 are in candidacy for accreditation. Individual members on these campuses now exceed 10,000.
