ACBSP Communities
Various dictionaries define the word com•mu•ni•ty as:
- a group of people living together as a smaller social unit within a larger
one, and having interests, work,
etc. in common;
- a group of people having common interests;
- a group viewed as forming a distinct segment of society;
- similarity or identity;
- sharing, participation, and fellowship.
The creation of ACBSP Communities is getting underway
at the current time. A key component of
the early stages of the “Better Than Ever” campaign conducted by ACBSP in 2003-2004
was the expansion of the
concept of membership in ACBSP from just the primary representative and the
alternate representative on each member institution to now include every person
on the campus involved in the delivery of business education. Each person is
considered an individual member. As a result of this change, the database of
persons who may now consider themselves as individual members of ACBSP has grown
from just over 800 to over 4,200 as of October 2005. This number increases each
month as schools join and as updated data from member schools is received.
With this synergy, the opportunity to have a group of people having a common
interest to form a smaller social unit within a larger one becomes real. These
communities can be viewed as a distinct segment within ACBSP who join together
because of a similarity or identify for the purpose of sharing, participation,
and fellowship.
Public Communities
Two types of communities will be created. Public communities are open to any
individual. Members join a community through a menu on the member only site.
Joining a community entitles the member to participate in a listserv and access
to the community library.
Private Communities
Private communities are created by ACBSP and membership is limited to
individuals designated by ACBSP.
