2016 Scholarship Winners Announced; 15 Students Selected

Kappa Beta Delta Honor Society is proud to announce the 2016 recipients of the Andrew V. Stevenson Scholarship and the ACBSP Regions Merit Scholarship. Congratulations to all of our students and thank you to all those who applied. The 2017 awards application period will open next December.

ACBSP Regions Merit Scholarship

The ACBSP Regions Merit Scholarship is given on behalf of those ACBSP Regions that wish to participate. Each participating ACBSP Region designates and funds the amount of the scholarship. A student from that Region that did not win the Andrew V. Stevenson Scholarship is then chosen. The eligibility and selection criteria is the same as the Andrew V. Stevenson Scholarship.

Now Accepting Applications for the 2016 Andrew V. Stevenson Scholarship

Kappa Beta Delta is proud to announce that the application period for the 2016 Andrew V. Stevenson Scholarship is now open! This year, 12 general scholarships of $1,000 each are available. An additional 4 scholarships will be awarded to honor society members in specific ACBSP Regions. These additional scholarships are in the amounts of $500 or $1,000.

Andrew V. Stevenson served as the Associate Director of Accreditation of ACBSP and worked closely with associate degree schools until his death. He was instrumental in creating Kappa Beta Delta, an honor society for associate degree business programs which have ACBSP accreditation. 

Applicants will be judged by a committee of faculty advisors based on an applicant's academic achievement, professional achievements and goals, and involvement in the local community. The scholarship is competitive. In 2015, a record 52 applicants applied. Kappa Beta Delta expects even more students to apply this year.

Ivy Tech Gary Participates in Dictionary Project

Kappa Beta Delta Vice President, Christina Carter, stands with textbooks collected by students. The annual textbook collection is for The Dictionary Project, which donates dictionaries to thrid grade students in the community. The Gary Chapter of Kappa Beta Delta has chosen this project as part of the KBD Service Learning and Educational Support Initiative in the Community.

Gary Ivy Tech to Host Community Conversations Series

The Gary Ivy Tech School of Business, Kappa Beta Delta (KBD) and Student Government Association will host a series of Community Conversations at the Gary Ivy Tech Campus Restaurant, Room 116 conducted by Attorney Donna Summerville-Smith for the month of November from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on the topics of:

 

·         Domestic Violence (November 12th) 

·         Paternity and Child Support (November 19th)


Attorney Summerville-Smith is a Staff Attorney for Indiana Legal Services, Inc. and provides legal representation and serves as a Mediator and Guardian Ad Litem in Lake County, Indiana. She has been employed with Indiana Legal Services, Inc., formerly known as Legal Services of Northwest Indiana, Inc. since 1998.

Alpha Beta Delta Chapter of Kappa Beta Delta formed at Luna Community College; Welcomes 5 Inductees

Luna Community College Top Business Students Invited to Join Honor Society

School of Business at Luna Community announces the formation of a local chapter of the Kappa Beta Delta International Honor Society. The Alpha Beta Delta Chapter, formally installed November 20, 2014, will be inducting its first charter members May 1, 2015. Kappa Beta Delta is for students who are enrolled in institutions accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP). Kappa Beta Delta was established to encourage and recognize scholarship and accomplishment in the pursuit and completion of studies in business, management and administration which culminates in the conferral of the associate degree.

Kappa Beta Delta provides an opportunity for the faculty to confer on students at Luna Community, recognition for their outstanding academic achievements in the business school/program. Students invited to membership must meet or exceed the following criteria:  

  • The student must declare a major in business 
  • The student must rank in the upper 20% of their class
  • The student must have completed a minimum of 50 credit hours, of which a minimum of 20 credits are in business
  • The student must have a cumulative grade of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.

The School of Business at Luna Community College congratulates the (5) students who have earned invitations to membership in 2015.

Ivy Tech Community College Northwest Inducts 33 New Members

Ivy Tech Community College Northwest Region Kappa Beta Delta chapter held its annual induction ceremony March 21, 2015, welcoming 33 new members to the international honor society for students pursuing associate degrees in accounting, business administration, supply chain management, logistics and entrepreneurship. Each student must have completed at least 15 hours of credit with a minimum of six credit hours completed in business courses and a 3.0 GPA.

33 New Kappa Beta Delta Members from Ivy Tech Community College Northwest

Honorary inductee R. Louie Gonzalez, President of the Foundations of East Chicago De La Garza campus provided the keynote addressing details of his personal story and journey to educational success. Mr. Gonzalez has encouraged students, many of whom are the first in their family to attend college and come to Ivy Tech. He has put his dedication to our community into action by developing programs and services that extend beyond the academic needs of students and focused on their success in careers and life beyond college. He encouraged attendees and inductees to share their stories and to continue focusing on educational success.

Kappa Beta Delta (Alpha Gamma Chapter) was established in 2001 and has more than 850 lifetime members. This Honor Society was established to encourage scholarships and recognize accomplishments among those students enrolled in the School of Business program and who are pursuing an Associate Degree in an Accreditation Council of Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) two year college. The organization encourages and promotes personal and professional improvement and a life distinguished by honorable service to humankind.
